A new owl has arrived!
Please welcome Aubrey - younger brother of Gilderoy and Silvester - Aubrey is perfect for beginners - an ideal introduction to goldwork embroidery!
Stumpwork is a technique dating back to the 15th century which incorporates 3 dimensional stitched elements with traditional embroidery. Stumpwork embroidery often includes slips. Slips are pieces of embroidery worked separately then applied onto the main piece of embroidery, the slips can be padded before applying to the main piece, suitable for elements such as figures and sometimes have a wired edge which is covered with embroidery - perfect for petals on a flower, wings on a bird etc.
Please welcome my latest owl Cuthbert!
Cuthbert is the 3rd in my original owl trio - the brother to Gilderoy and Silvester.
Cuthbert incorporates stumpwork techniques alongside traditional goldwork. He is worked in copper coloured threads, his wings are wired and stitched separately, then cut out and attached at the end.
